The goal for the University of Houston to reach flagship status is one of the main concerns UH President Renu Khator said she wants to address during her first 100 days in office. "It takes an entire community to build a university," she said. March 5 marked the halfway point of Khator's 100 days in office, during which she said she wanted to receive feedback from both UH and the community to improve the University gradually during the next five to 10 years. The shortage of parking spaces, regulation clarity and safety are among the major concerns students say should be addressed by UH President Renu Khator. Changes have been made in the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid and to PeopleSoft 8.9 to help prevent the kind of confusion that plagued students at the start of Fall 2007, officials said. Former UH band director dies at 82

In the late 1970s, David Bertman saw the Cougars on a televised bowl game. What struck Bertman the most during the game's halftime show was a little old man off on the side, jumping around in a uniform. It was William Moffit, the director of the Spirit of Houston Marching band, who jumped around on the field - or as Bertman described him, a ball of energy. (0) comments

SGA Senate passes gender identity bill

Anti-discrimination policy to be extended to include transsexual, transgender if approved by administration

The Student Government Association Senate passed a bill Wednesday calling for protection of transsexual and transgender members of the UH community. The bill, proposed by Social Work Sen. Josephine Tittsworth, At-Large Graduate Sen. Van Hua and English literature sophomore Christopher Busby calls for changes to be made to UH's anti-discrimination policy. (0) comments

University forms task force to consider labor issues; students criticize communication

The University announced Tuesday that it has created an apparel task force comprised of five faculty members, one student representative and one staff member to study if clothing manufacturers are adhering to UH's code of labor. During recent demonstrations, students asked Khator to sign the Designated Suppliers' Program, a program with the Workers' Rights Consortium that some students say would ensure UH apparel workers have good working conditions. Low UH home game attendance rates are one of the concerns students want to see addressed during UH President Renu Khator's 100 Days survey initiative, Athletics Department officials said.
