The Cougars defeated Washington 79-64 on Saturday, winning their third consecutive game at Hofheinz Pavilion. The Cougars had struggled on offense in the early part of the season, but they had no trouble scoring against the Huskies.
Andre Owens scored 17 of his 22 points in the first half, and the Cougars led 42-31 at halftime.
Senior guard Marcus Oliver scored 13 points for the Cougars against Washington on Saturday. Oliver has provided veteran leadership to a young and inexperienced team.
Senior center Anwar Ferguson came just two blocked shots short of a triple double, scoring 14 points, pulling down 10 rebounds and blocking a career-high eight shots.
The Cougars will try to win their fourth consecutive home game tonight when they face Chicago State at 7:30 p.m. at Hofheinz Pavilion. Admission to the game is free for UH students.
Women's Basketball
After defeating the North Texas Mean Green 74-62 on Friday, the UH women's basketball team will get a breather before playing Texas A&M on Tuesday.The Lady Cougars now have an overall record of 6-2, and their only losses have come against top-15 teams. Houston lost 65-52 to No. 11 Georgia on Dec. 3, and was narrowly beaten by the No. 7 Purdue Lady Boilermakers 66-63 on Dec. 7.
UH earned some national recognition when it received
35 votes in the latest coaches poll, the fifth-highest vote total for teams
not ranked in the top 25.
