![]() Volume 9, Issue 1 University of Houston Women’s basketball looks to change fortunes at Troy Classic By JONG LEE Breaking News The Cougar women's basketball team (1-6, 0-1 Conference USA) will head to Los Angeles to compete in the Troy Classic. It will play Prairie View A&M at 5 p.m. Friday and the University of Southern California at 4 p.m. Saturday. Prairie View A&M has changed its team significantly since last year, head coach Joe Curl said. “They are going to be a totally different team, and from what I understand, they have a lot of different kids on their roster (who were) not there a year ago,” he said. “They may be a little young, but so are we. I expect us to play as well as we can play to get a win out there.” Curl said USC has also improved its team dramatically. "I know (Coach Mark Trakh) very well. (He) came over from Pepperdine a couple years ago and has turned them back into a winner," Curl said. "They have competed for the Pac-10 title with Stanford and UCLA, and I know that they will be very tough.” The Cougars are coming off their first win of the season against California State University-Bakersfield Dec. 6. Houston started the season with six losses. “We never showed a lack of hustle, and we were playing hard,” Curl said. “But I think it may have rattled our confidence a little bit.” Send comments to dcsports@mail.uh.edu. |
