UH swimming and diving teams jump into action

The UH swimming team continued to tread through the competition last week when it traveled to Boca Raton for the Florida Invitational, while the diving team dove into action in the Georgia Invitational against some of the nation's best college divers.

The swimming team was led by senior Mandy Harms as UH defeated Illinois State (53-42), Emory University in Atlanta (63-33) and New Mexico (53-42), but succumbed to Oakland University (73-22) and host Florida Atlantic (57-38).
Harms finished third in the 200-yard freestyle and fourth in the 100-yard with times of 1:58.40 and 54.46 respectively.
Two other swimmers contributed with quality times. Sophmore Christy Milstead finished third in the 200-yard fly (2:11.44) and freshman Danielle Ruggiano posted a (2:14.70) in the 200-yard individual medley.
The swimming team is currently 8-6 in dual meets for the season.
The UH diving team showed its mettle in the Georgia Invitational. Seniors Yolanda Hernandez-Casas and Christi Christensen placed fourth and seventh place, respectively, in the meet.
Hernandez-Casas posted a score of 483.35, while Christensen got a 442.60 among 16 elite divers.
The next UH competition will be at the UH natatorium Jan. 15 against
cross-town rival Rice and Big 12 power New Mexico State.
