Volume 2, Issue 3 University of Houston Lady Coogs come away with split at Holiday Classic By Jesse Lauritz
The University of Houston women's basketball team suffered a loss to No. 3 ranked Louisiana Tech 94-49 in the first round of the State Farm Holiday Classic. The Lady Cougars were behind 54-29 at halftime and Louisiana Tech continued to outscore them in the second half on the way to the 50-point rout. UH guard Danielle Fenderson led the Lady Cougars with 11 points. UH then defeated Southeastern Louisiana 70-66 to win the consolation game of the Tournament. It was only the second win of the season for the Lady Cougars. UH led 43-27 at halftime but saw the lead dwindle before freshman Sara Navarro hit two big free throws with 42 seconds remaining.

Fenderson was one of three UH players in double figures against USF, leading the way with 13 points. Kokeesha Randle was the leading scorer for the Lady Cougars with a season high 17 points. Newcomer Nakea Mitchell also added nine points to the effort. Sunday, UH lost its Conference USA league-opener 73-63 to South Florida. After snapping a four game losing streak, the loss gave the Cougars a 2-8 record. Down 18 points early in the game, UH cut the Lady Bulls' lead to only five at halftime. USF forward Charmain Leslie led all players with 20 points. UH had three players who scored in double figures, with Danielle Fenderson leading the way with 13 points. ShaRonda Lasseter also posted a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. The Lady Cougars' next home game will be against Saint Louis on Jan.
