The UH women's basketball team lost to the University of Texas 85-61 on Dec. 7 at the Frank Erwin Center in Austin. The Lady Cougars shot only 27 percent from the field in the first half, giving Texas a 40-21 lead at halftime. The Lady Longhorns went on a 17-8 run to open the second half which gave UT a commanding 57-29 lead. The Lady Cougars' leading scorer was sophomore Angela Curl, who scored 10 points in only 16 minutes of play. Guards Danielle Fenderson, Jessica Shanklin and Monet Sykes added eight points each. Sykes was also the leading rebounder, pulling down seven boards. The loss moved the Lady Cougars' record to 1-6, while UT improved to 6-2 on the season. Texas was led by Alisha Sare who had 19 points. Edwina Brown nearly missed a triple double as she had 17 points, 15 rebounds, nine assists and five steals as her all around play gave the Lady Longhorns the victory. Carla Litteton missed a double-double by a single rebound as she raked in nine rebounds while scoring 16 points. She also blocked four shots. UH will be off until Dec. 28, when the Cougars head
to the Louisiana Tech Holiday Tournament in Ruston, La.
