Christmas tree recycling to begin Dec. 29
Program has recycled nearly 400,000 trees in eight years

Don't trash your tree after Christmas -- recycle it.
The city of Houston will accept Christmas trees for recycling, Dec. 29 through Jan. 9.
Twelve locations will be set up around the city to collect the trees, which will be recycled with help from the Living Earth Technology Co. In the eight years the program has operated, some 400,000 trees have been recycled.
Before recycling trees, residents are asked to remove tinsel, decorations and tree stands. Flocked trees cannot be recycled. They should be placed at the curb for pick-up on the regularly scheduled heavy trash day.
In addition to the following collection sites, trees can be placed at the curb for recycling pick-up on the regularly scheduled yard waste trimmings collection day.
This season's tree recycling collection sites are:
