Volume 2, Issue 2 University of Houston Cougar Sports Services With the 1999 bowl season in full swing, two members of the UH football team are preparing for postseason all-star football games. Seniors Greg Brown (Miami, Fla.) and Mike Green (Houston) will show their wares to a bevy of NFL scouts at the annual all-star contests. Brown will take part in the East-West Shrine Football Classic after the new year in the San Francisco/Bay Area, while Green will delight Christmas audiences when he takes part in the Kelly Tires Blue-Gray Classic in Montgomery, Ala. Brown started all 11 games for the Cougars this past season at left guard and was named First Team All-Conference USA in the process. Brown -- who also picked up Honorable Mention All-America accolades from The Football News -- opened holes all season long for record-breaking running back Ketric Sanford. The Cougars rushing game finished 16th in the nation with slightly less than 210 yards per game. As for Green, the burly running back served as Sanford's able backup all season long, rushing for 838 yards and eight touchdowns despite missing the Cincinnati game with a sprained ankle. Green topped the 100-yard plateau on four occasions, capping off his
senior season with a career-best 162 yards and two scores in the 26-14
win over Army. Green and Sanford teamed for 2,037 yards and 20 TDs-a total
that was second best in the nation for a rushing tandem.
