After carrying a three-game winning streak into last week, the UH men's basketball team returns home with a streak of a different sort.
On Dec. 15, Wojciech Myrda's free throw with three seconds remaining lifted Louisiana-Monroe (6-1) to an 82-81 win over UH at Ewing Coliseum. The Indians stretched their winning streak to five games behind the play of Mike Smith, who scored a career-high 36 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and made 6-of-16 shots from behind the arc.
Gee Gervin led the Cougars with 21 points while George Williams had 19. Kenny Younger pulled in a game-high 11 rebounds.

Kenny Younger pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds in UH's 82-81 loss to Louisiana-Monroe. After suffering two straight road defeats, the Cougars are now 3-4 away from Houston.
On Saturday afternoon, UH lost another close decision 83-75 to Georgetown at the MCI Center.
The Hoyas won their fourth game in a row as UH was unable to score a point in the final three-plus minutes of the ballgame after knotting the score at 75 with 3:46 to play.
Gervin was the Cougars' leading scorer for the second straight game, dropping in 24 points despite constant foul trouble. He picked up his fourth personal foul with 11:37 remaining and had to sit on the bench for six minutes in the second half.
UH scored 20 points off of Georgetown's 23 turnovers in the game and even led at halftime 46-43.
Throughout the game Hoya fans chanted "1984," the
year in which Georgetown defeated UH in the NCAA championship game 84-75,
ironically just one point away from the final score of Saturday's contest.
