Some University of Houston and University of Kentucky students will feel as if they're walking on air when they participate in the 1997 NASA Reduced Gravity Student Flight Opportunities Program.
The team of undergraduate engineering students will make two flights from Ellington Field aboard the NASA Boeing KC-135A jet April 16 and 17 to test a space vehicle truss damage-detection device in a zero-gravity environment.
The purpose of the tests is to determine whether the space vehicle device will work properly in an outer-space environment. Preflight training began this week.
The UH team members are Eric Myers, Ricardo Ortiz and Bryan Pendleton, senior mechanical engineering majors, and Roy Hayes, a senior industrial engineering major.
