More than 12,000 people gathered on the University of Houston campus Sunday to take part in the WalkAmerica walkathon sponsored by the March of Dimes.
Despite the cold weather and chilling winds, the attendants, accompanied by their children and pets, endured the 5.6 mile walk for the sake of charity. Many sponsors, including Foley's and Chevron, provided a variety of food and drinks distributed at tents erected in the Robertson Stadium parking lot.
Rest stops all over campus provided walkers with water and Blue Bell Ice Cream.
