The University of Houston golf team increased its lead after the second round of play in the Conference USA Men's Golf Championships Wednesday in West Columbia, Texas.

Cougar Victor Schwamkrug fired a three-under-par 69, Chris Morris shot a one-under-par 71, and the Cougars shot a 292 overall to give UH an eight-shot lead going into the final day of competition.

UNC-Charlotte, second after the first day of competition, shot a gaudy 323 to drop to a tie for sixth.

Alabama-Birmingham shot a tournament-low 291 to move into second place.

The final round begins 7:30 a.m. today.
