Houston Lady Cougars Luciane Kelbert and Susanne Andersson of the women's tennis team were both named to the All-Conference USA first team after compiling 17-6 and 19-4 records, respectively.
UH freshman Jane Brown earned a place on the All Conference USA third team after compiling a 17-3 record in the No. 6 spot for the Lady Cougars.
In addition to a spot on the first team, Marquette's Melissa Penalvo was named Conference USA Most Valuable Player and Freshman of the Year.
South Florida's Ana Fernandez, Alicia Kerstyn and Katerine Tessier earned the other three spots on the first team.
South Florida coach Sherry Bedingfield won Coach of the Year after her team won the C-USA championship.
Cunliffe signs with UH
Joanna Cunliffe of Middlesbrough, England, has signed a letter of intent with the UH tennis team for the 1997-98 season.
Cunliffe has consistently been ranked in the top eight in her age group. In the 1994 Great Britain National Championships, she reached the quarterfinals in singles and semifinals in doubles competition. In the 1996 championships, she reached the top 16 in singles and the semifinals in doubles.
Cunliffe plans to major in kinesiology and sports administration.
