About 400 University of Houston College of Pharmacy alumni and guests celebrated the college's 50th anniversary April 19 at the 50th Anniversary Gala.
Part of the gala was the college's silent auction, featuring a variety of items, including part of the 150,000-piece "Bubba's Bottles" collection of pharmaceutical antiques.
Two 1995 NBA basketballs autographed by Hakeem Olajuwon and Clyde Drexler, both Houston Rockets, were auctioned for $1,400 to Howard Biel and Bill Handal.
A mercury bichloride poison bottle was sold to Texas State Board of Pharmacy Executive Director Fred Brinkley for $325, a new record high. In all, the auction brought in $14,000, which will be used to support pharmacy student scholarships and other programs.
The college also named its 50 Outstanding Alumni at the gala.
