The University of Houston Students' Association rounded out its final meeting of the semester Wednesday by filling its director of finance and Honors College Senate seat positions and discussing the search for a new athletics director.
Social Science Sen. Sorita Lovings became the director of finance after a unanimous vote among those who voted. Social Work Sen. Amaury Nora abstained.
Current Director of Finance Lee Doherty will end her term May 30 upon graduation.
The Honors College seat, vacated last week when Brenda Johnson became director of public relations, was filled by sophomore engineering major Jackie Johnson.
Jackie Johnson said she was told about her nomination earlier that day, and said she had no plans for her position as of yet.
Vice President Jon Erickson said the search to fill the athletics director position is going quickly, and a consultant company is helping the search committee to locate and work through potential applicants.
"Students do have a voice in this committee," Erickson said. "There will be an open forum May 8 for all students to come forward with concerns, ideas, opinions about what this person should encompass."
Erickson added, "This is not a forum to discuss whether we will or will not have an athletic director. We will have one.
"This is a very important selection, because this person will either be the god that turns around the Athletics Department at the University of Houston, or it will be the last athletic director we ever have at the University of Houston."
Summer sessions for the Senate will begin May 28 and will meet every other Wednesday.
