The Houston Cougars baseball team dropped two of three games this weekend to the Northwestern State Demons.
Saturday, the Cougars (3-3) lost the series opener 5-4 in a pitchers' duel. Cougars pitcher Shane Nance picked up the loss despite giving up three hits in just over six innings.
Sunday was a doubleheader due to rain Saturday, and the Cougars got a split on the day.
Northwestern won the first game 8-4 as pitcher Chris Brown struck out 11 and scattered nine hits to allow only two earned runs.
But the Cougars were able to salvage something before they left town. A two-run homer by Scott Keithley led to a six-run second inning for Houston in the series finale, which led to a 15-8 win.
The Cougars led by as much as 12-0 in the sixth inning before the Demons were able to get on the scoreboard, giving Cougars pitcher Jon McDonald the win.
