Fencing. It's a sport that many of us have fantasized about but have never found an opportunity to try. There is something about holding a deadly piece of gleaming metal and wielding it with Errol Flynn-like finesse that stirs the romantic in all of us.
The art of fencing is being revitalized in colleges across Texas and the Southwest. The University of Houston Fencing Club, though only a few years old, is becoming a strong contender in this growing sport.
Two weeks ago, UH sent a sabre squad to Baylor for the third Southwest Intercollegiate Fencing Association tournament of this season, and the Cougars triumphed over the University of Texas, the University of North Texas and rival Texas A&M to win the first-place trophy.
