Former Women's Association president killed in car crash

Services will be held Friday for Ella Hawes, who was killed in an automobile crash Monday morning. She was the wife of University of Houston RTV professor William Hawes.

Mrs. Hawes was a former president of the UH Women's Association, and during her term the organization initiated the Mary Harding Hoffman Scholarship. Mrs. Hawes, 60, died when her car crashed into a truck in the FM 1960 area.

The service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Luke's United Methodist Church, 3471 Westheimer. For the past 12 years Hawes had been the director of the church's day school. Her family intends to establish the Ella Hawes Children's Fund through the church.
