Perhaps you have noticed all of the construction going up on Calhoun Road transforming a once-open field into something called "Fiesta City." As one of the oldest traditions on our campus, Frontier Fiesta is rapidly approaching and taking shape to provide a fun opportunity for students, alumni, their families and the Houston community to interact with one another.
This Texas-style festival is one of the largest annual events on campus and attracts thousands of people from all over to see the student-produced talent shows, nationally known performing artists, historical and cultural exhibits and a huge barbecue cook-off.
Life magazine once proclaimed the event as "The Greatest College Show on Earth," and Frontier Fiesta continues to live up to that reputation.
As members of the University of Houston Student Foundation, we are excited to be a part of such an important activity. Very few UH events draw a crowd this large and diverse to the campus other than Frontier Fiesta. In fact, outside of athletic events, no other event pulls together so many different alumni, students and regular community members in support of the University of Houston.
More than 50,000 people are expected to be on campus from April 15-18 for Frontier Fiesta. Where else can we build so much excitement for our alma mater?
We would like to officially invite you to participate. There will be something for everyone at this year's Frontier Fiesta, including carnival rides, games, food, music and so much more. It is completely appropriate to bring your friends, your family, your children or that special someone you have been trying to get alone for a date.
Top talent acts like country superstar Jerry Jeff Walker will entertain on the main stage free of charge for all to enjoy.
You are especially invited to come by and see us at the Firehouse, the site hosted by the Student Foundation in Fiesta City. We will have continuous bingo games each day with awesome prizes for all of the winners. We will also have full-fledged firefighters there to visit with the little ones and give demonstrations on fire safety.
In conclusion, the Student Foundation would like to congratulate all of the participating student organizations and volunteers that make Frontier Fiesta a success. It takes a lot of hard work and dedication to the University of Houston to create Fiesta City.
We support each and every student organization on campus and look forward to seeing you there.
