The Moores School of Music presents A Tribute to William Lincer at 7:30 p.m. Monday in the Moores Opera House. Lincer was one of the principal American pedagogues and performers in the viola world.
Composers featured in the tribute include Benjamin, Godowsky-Heifetz, Kreisler, Joplin, Tchaikovsky, Bridge, Stravinsky, Czerny, Wheeler, Debussy and others. Featured performers include violists Rita Porfiris, Lawrence Wheeler, Ted Allred and Joanna Mendoza. Timothy Hester will accompany on piano. Admission is $5 ($3 for students and seniors), and tickets are available at the door.
The MSM's contemporary ensemble, AURA, will present a concert featuring music from the last decade tonight at 7:30 in the Moores Opera House.
Under the direction of award-winning composer Christopher Theofanidis, the ensemble will premiere works by Louis Andriessen, Lou Harrison, Shafer Mahoney, Arthur Bloom and Pablo Ziegler. The pieces will be heard in the state of Texas for the first time.
Admission is $5 and tickets are available at the door.
Mikylah Meyers, violin - 8 p.m. Saturday in Dudley Recital Hall.
Fernando Corvisier, piano - 3 p.m. Sunday in Dudley Recital Hall. Corvisier will be presenting a doctoral recital.
Wade Studio Recital - 6 p.m. Sunday in Dudley Recital Hall. The recital features the voice students of Liz Wade. Robyn Reso, voice - 7:30 p.m. Sunday in Dudley Recital Hall. Reso will be presenting a doctoral recital.
Percussion Ensemble - Tuesday, 7:30 p.m., Moores Opera House. Directed by Blake Wilkins.
For those of you out there who are unfamiliar with some of the musical terms I may use in my column from time to time, I offer the "Musical Term of the Week." Hopefully, this will help the musically illiterate not to feel left out when they read my articles. The definition will include the origin of the term and the literal meaning. I will also include a MSM connection:
quasi (Italy). "As if." Thus often "almost." This term is often used by Dr. Charles Hausmann, director of the MSM Concert Chorale, and Robert Mayes, director of the marching and symphonic bands; i.e., "RuPaul is quasi female."
