Student members of the University of Houston's School of Theatre Dance Ensemble will perform a composition in Washington, D.C., in May.
"El Cerrojo," a dance choreographed by anthropology major Sara Draper, was chosen in March as one of three dances that will represent this region in a performance of the National American College Dance Festival at Washington, D.C.'s Kennedy Center.
Draper and Michelle Manzanales, a finance major, perform in "El Cerrojo," which is a duet based on the biblical text "Song of Songs."
Manzanales' dance, "eMMe," was also selected to go to the National Festival, but the rules dictate that a school can only send one dance.
Because of that, "eMMe" was selected as an alternate dance by the adjudicators.
Funds are needed to send Draper, Manzanales and two faculty members to Washington. Anyone wishing to contribute should call (713) 743-3003.
