Distinguished: The Hilton College Dean's Distinguished Lecturer Series welcomes Peter Kline, president and CEO of Bristol Hotels and Resorts, to speak at 10 a.m. in the University Hilton Waldorf-Astoria Ballroom. Everyone is invited to attend.

Volunteering in the shade: MVP, Campus Activities and Residential Life and Housing invite everyone to "Under the Oaks," a campus activity and volunteer fair, 4 to 7 p.m. in the Quadrangle (between Settegast and Taub residence halls). Representatives from volunteer agencies and campus activities will be present.

Reading: The Margarett Root Brown Houston Reading Series will conclude with author Ernest J. Gaines reading at 8 p.m. in the Museum of Fine Arts' Brown Auditorium, 1001 Bissonnet between Montrose and Main. Donations welcome: Psi Chi, the national psychology honor society, had adopted the Star of Hope homeless shelter and will maintain a box for donations in Room 132K, Heyne Building. Among the most-needed items for donation are towels, disposable diapers and non-perishable food.

It doesn't grow on trees: The Council of Ethnic Organizations may have additional funds available for member groups on a stand-by basis. Organizations in need of funding may come by Room 63, UC Underground, for more information.
