The Student Publications Committee elected editors for the Houstonian yearbook and The Daily Cougar at its meeting Tuesday.
Matt Rogers, managing editor of the Houstonian, and Demetria Cantu, a section editor for the yearbook, will serve as co-editors for the 1999 annual.
"Our goal is to prove that there is a way to make a yearbook work on this campus," Rogers and Cantu said. "Our plan is to put together an efficient staff, set high standards for content and significantly increase book sales," they said.
Daily Cougar Editor in Chief Ingrid Allstrom will continue to act as editor of the newspaper during the summer term. She plans to focus on recruiting and retaining staff. "I think the one thing that's holding us back from becoming a great paper is having a larger core of dedicated staff," Allstrom said. "I think that, while the things we've chosen to cover have been broader than in the past, what we need to focus on in the future is depth of coverage."
In the fall 1998 semester, Campus News Editor Jim Parsons will take over as editor in chief. "I think the Cougar has become a more readable and professional newspaper this spring, but we still have some work to do," Parsons said. "I hope I can build a capable staff and try to make this the paper the campus needs rather than the paper the campus endures."
