Intramurals plan a busy season

Beginning Sept. 11, Intramurals will begin the Fall 1998 semester as it finished the spring: busy.

With 16 events and activities scheduled, Intramurals will be one of the busiest departments on campus. With favorites such as flag football and indoor soccer returning, there will be something for everyone.

Mark Kuhlman, coordinator for Intramural Activities, says that his department attempts to provide activities for everyone.

"We do pretty much a cross-section of activities that are indigenous to the area," he said.

"Any student, as long as he or she is registered for at least one hour, may participate," he said. "Faculty, staff and alumni are also welcome to participate."

Intramurals are designed for fun and recreation, but many take the fun seriously. For all of the activities offered, there is a points system in which organizations compete against each other in a year-long battle.

"Some of the frats get pretty competitive," Kuhlman said. "Not only for the overall championship, but especially for the frat lead."

Although fun is the main reason behind intramurals, Kuhlman said that another goal was to provide an opportunity for students to compete in a tournament or league format, instead of just shooting hoops in the driveway.

All team activities may be played as men's, women's or co-ed. Everything from co-ed bowling to horseshoes is offered, and most come with only a nominal entry fee.
