Court Report
Somebody please cover this guy...
Hanging next to Sean Colson's Valentine's Day hearts will be his second straight Conference USA player of the week award.
The senior guard led the 49ers of UNC Charlotte to three victories last week. His last-second heroics have been the key to the 49ers success, including a steal with four seconds left to ice a victory at Marquette. Colson also lit up Louisville for 22 points in the second half.
Colson shot .514 for the week from the field, including 8-of-17 three-pointers. He also averaged 7.7 assists, boosting his league-leading average to 7.1 per game.
Victories galore
Along with player of the week awards, UNC Charlotte has been collecting C-USA victories at a record pace. After a 3-0 week the 49ers have amassed an 11-2 conference record. The 11 wins and the .842 winning percentage are both school records.
Losing in waves
Tulane is struggling miserably. With eight straight losses the Green Wave has established itself firmly as the weak sister in Conference USA.
Its 1-11 mark is a conference low and if it weren't for UH's friendly donation, a 71-59 defeat on Jan. 18, Tulane would have the big doughnut in the wins column.
Rumblings out of New Orleans are that Perry Clark would not mind coaching elsewhere next season. A few other coaches from C-USA might be coaching elsewhere as well.
Among the ranks
Cincinnati's ranking of No. 18 remains the only spot among C-USA members. The Bearcats are an impressive 5-0 at home in conference play this season and 12-0 over the last two years.
Since the inception of C-USA, Cincinnati has the league's best intra-conference record (34-7) with an .829 win percentage.
With the weak teams in C-USA, look for those numbers to climb.
Saint Louis and UNC Charlotte also received votes for the top 25 poll this week.
How the mighty are falling...
As tourney time approaches, Memphis is trying to unpack its bags for the Big Dance in March. At 12-10 overall, the Tigers will probably have to win the C-USA tourney to get an invite.
Memphis has struggled as of late, losing three straight C-USA matches. The Tigers have been outscored by a total of 25 points in the last three games including a 13-point loss to USM on Valentine's Day. Memphis will try to get back on track against Tulane Wednesday night
