Staff Editorial

It's not like we're asking for a UNIVAC

When are we going to get some computers that work and a staff that knows how to use them? Students pay $50 a semester in computer fees, which adds up to around $150,000 a semester!

Quad residents pay more than $1,200 a semester, and, at times, there's only one computer for all five buildings.

Now, students rarely have a class that doesn't require some sort of work on a computer. Not only do students have papers and projects, but many professors require research on the Internet, and some list their e-mail addresses rather than their office hours.

Students need computers, and they pay for them.

Let's face it - many poor college students can't afford to shell out thousands of dollars for the latest technology, but professors demand it. And, more importantly, students need computer skills in almost any field. Computer literacy is no longer required solely of techno-geeks. Virtually every employer demands it.

How are we helping our students achieve if we don't have adequate facilities?
