Watching the Alley Theatre's production of August Wilson's Seven Guitars is like sitting on your back porch on a lazy Sunday afternoon with a cool glass of lemonade. There doesn't seem to be a whole lot going on, but it sure feels good to ease your mind for a while as the sun gazes down on you.
After a bit, though, even the feel-good rays of the sun can be a bit draining, making you wonder just what you were doing out there in the first place.
The Alley's production Seven Guitars largely succeeds on the solid work of its cast, but the unnecessarily lengthy duration of the play slightly dilutes its overall effect.
