What else?

When President Clinton was exonerated by the Senate, we thought it was the end of the scandal.

Perhaps now, the nation can get back to the business at hand – whatever that may be.

Yes. Perhaps now, the president will turn the corner and become one of this century's greatest leaders.

That would be easy, considering the amount of time the trial took up.

Now it turns out that more than 50,000 Americans donated more than $4.5 million to the president's legal defense fund.

So basically, the president was not only let off the hook by a Senate who didn't have popular support behind it, but he got paid for it as well.

The fund, set up one year ago to cover $9 million of Clinton's legal bills, includes donations ranging from $25 to $10,000, the maximum allowed. That, of course, is perfectly legal.

What one person wants to do with his or her money is completely up to him or her.

Stop for a moment, however, to think about the rationale behind sending donations to a man who deserves to be in the mess he's in now.

He isn't dying of cancer, people. Jerry Lewis hasn't been seen anywhere singing "You'll Never Walk Alone" for Bill Clinton.

No, America isn't dying because of some perceived attack on privacy. The man is the president – he has no privacy.

On second thought, this doesn't sound like such a bad idea after all. Let's all send money, mementos and other bric-a-brac to people who may be suffering right now.

Kevin Costner hasn't been in a successful movie in quite some time. I'm sure he'd love a little pick-me-up.

Jerry Falwell said something incredibly stupid. He must be feeling foolish. Surely his ministry deserves a donation for all the good work he does.

There are some Aryans in Jasper right now who could use some new lawyers.

Ben Reyes and Betti Maldonado are smiling on the outside, but they must be feeling down. That Dick DeGuerin's a pretty expensive lawyer.

Yes, the above is an insipid, asinine, satirical look at a difference of opinion. However, with all that's wrong with the world, with all that needs our support, we send money to the Clintons?
