Cougar wins 3rd
in national contest
Cougar News Services The Daily Cougar added to its list of awards and honors this weekend as the newspaper won third place in the Associated Collegiate Press Newspaper of the Year competition. The contest, held during the ACP national convention in Huntington Beach, Calif., judged student newspapers from across the country on the basis of the quality of their writing and photography as well as overall layout and design. "I'm very excited, because people from outside this campus recognize our hard work and dedication," Assistant Managing Editor Ed De La Garza said. "It's our first real award in five years, so maybe it's a sign of things to come." The Daily Cougar has a history of national recognition, including the ACP's All-American rating, medals of honor from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association and the Best Student Newspaper award from the Society of Professional Journalists. "I am pleased to see that we got this recognition, because I think we have a very talented and hard-working staff, and it's good to see their efforts pay off," Editor in Chief Jim Parsons said. First place in the contest went to The Daily Titan of California State University-Fullerton, and second place was awarded to The Daily Trojan from the University of Southern California. |
