Students (above) lined up Tuesday as Raw Flava Cellular & Paging set up tables at the UC to give away free Ariel cellular phones. With a short credit check, some students were allowed to take home up to five phones, an opportunity that John Knight (right), a sophomore music business major, took advantage of. UH President Arthur K. Smith released a five-page memorandum Monday
responding to what he called a "fictitious web of conspiracy" in the Houston
news media regarding the alleged dismissal of UH Police Chief George Hess.
Not too long ago, a small boy was taken along with a group of people
leaving their home country to seek refuge in the United States. The group
failed. The boy? Promptly returned, too. No fuss, no muss, no Disneyland
and no cameras -- just some kid being rejected, along with his 9-year-old
brother and 405 other hopefuls.
"We have come in the name of Jimi, Sly, Marvin, Stevie, all artists
formerly known as spirits and all spirits formerly known as stars," r&b/soul
artist D'Angelo writes in the liner notes of his latest album, Voodoo,
recalling the names of some of the most legendary artists in soul music's
past.
USA Today's Baseball Weekly magazine labeled the Cougars as the ninth-best
team in the country, with cross-town rival Rice rated at No. 7.
