Rockets to retire
Drexler's jersey Thursday at Compaq Center
Cougar Sports Services The Houston Rockets will have a banner honoring UH men's head basketball coach Clyde Drexler at Alumni Hall in the athletics facility for students and well-wishers to sign from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. today. The "Thanks for the Memories" banner is roughly 100 feet long, and is a prelude to the Rockets' retirement of Drexler's jersey, set to occur during halftime of Thursday's game against Philadelphia. The game will tip-off at 7:35 p.m.
In his 15-year NBA career, Drexler was named one of the league's 50 greatest players. He joined Oscar Robertson and John Havlicek as the only players in league history to accumulate 20,000 points, 6,000 rebounds and 6,000 assists. Drexler ended his career 17th on the NBA scoring list and fourth in steals with a total of 2,207. He also recorded 25 triple-doubles in his playing days. Drexler was selected to play in 10 All-Star games, and appeared in nine. He was named to the All-NBA First Team in 1992, Second-Team in 1988 and 1991 and the Third Team in 1990 and 1995. On Valentine's Day of 1995, Drexler was reunited with fellow Cougar
Hakeem Olajuwon and the pair helped lead the team to an NBA championship,
the Rockets' second-consecutive title.
