Women's group gives
scholarships
By Sylvia A. Rocha
A barbecue luncheon and scholarship presentation Friday marked the 15th anniversary celebration of the Women's Business Support Network, which awarded five $1,000 scholarships to UH and UH-Downtown students this year. Education major Misty Morriss and biology major Elizabeth Carter of UH received the WBSN Foundation scholarships, as did Debra Atkinson, Anette Phillips and Mary Potts of UHD. "The scholarships are for women in need who want to further their education," said Kathy Fletcher, WBSN Foundation chairwoman. Peggy Floyd, founding member of the WBSN, explained that the recipients are "women who have had children and want to return to college to get a higher education in order to better themselves and help their families get ahead." The luncheon also included a "Boot Skootin' Style Show," a Western-themed
fashion show featuring the men of the Houston Firefighters Calendar.
