Cougars earn early recognition

The 2001 football season is around the
corner and Conference USA is gearing up. As the teams prepare for practice,
the coaches sent in their votes for the 2001 C-USA All-Conference squad.
Among those players chosen from the 10
teams in the league, two are members of the 2001 Cougar roster.
Defensive back Hanik Milligan made the
Preseason Defense First-Team after starting all 11 games of his sophomore
year, his first season with UH.

Junior wide receiver Brian
Robertson is one of two Cougars to be placed on the 2001 C-USA All-Conference
squad. Junior defensive back Hanik Milligan was also selected.
Milligan led the Cougars last year with
five interceptions and is the top returning player in tackles with 86 (62
unassisted). The 6-3 junior stopped a career-high 12 in the Cougars'
17-15 win at Robertson Stadium against
Southern Methodist on Sept. 30.
Milligan is one of four returning starters
for the UH defensive secondary.
The second Cougar to receive the Preseason
First-Team Offense honor is wide receiver Brian Robinson.
Robinson was named Second-Team All-Conference
at the end of the 2000 season with 80 catches after stepping in for the
injured Orlando Iglesias, starting in eight of 11 contests.
The 6-4 junior snagged 15 catches in a
31-30 home win on Sept. 16 over Army. The feat was the best by a UH receiver
in eight years.
Robinson finished fifth in the nation with
7.18 receptions per game and, with junior KeyKowa Bell, is part of the
No. 2 receiving tandem in the nation.
The C-USA head coaches picked Louisville
to defend its conference title this season, with East Carolina pulling
a close second. Louisville is led by returning 2000 C-USA Offensive
Player of the Year Dave Ragone, the Cardinals'
junior quarterback.
UH was voted to finish 2001 in ninth place
after closing the 2000 season 3-8 under the reigns of then-first-year head
coach Dana Dimel.
