The Lady Cougars will be traipsing through
the Cornhusker fields tonight as they face Nebraska in their second game
of the regular season. UH will be stepping in the Bob Davey Sports Center
with a home opener win and a much improved defensive and offensive effort.
Freshman standout Chandi Jones has started
every game for UH this season. With the Lady Coogs' win over McNeese State
on Friday, Jones is leading the pack with 23 points and six rebounds for
the season. Freshman guard/forward Nicole Oliver has helped cause turnovers
with her defensive play.
Oliver is a South Sioux City, Neb., native
and will be taking the court against a high school teammate, Cornhusker
sophomore guard/forward Candace Blackbird.
Nebraska finished last season 18-13 overall
and 10-6 in Big 12. The Lady 'Huskers are led by senior Casey Leonhardt
with 28 points and 7.0 rebounds per game so far this season. The 6-5 center
played a double-double (14 points, 10 rebounds) in Nebraska's upset over
then-No. 25 UC-Santa Barbara, 69-61, for the title of the Time Warner Cable
Classic Tournament on Nov. 19.
'Husker sophomore guard Margaret Richards
earned tournament MVP.
Friday the Lady Cougars face tournament
host Pepperdine in the Pepperdine Classic. Also participating in the tournament
are Kentucky and Missouri, who will play each other Friday. The consolation
and championship games will be held Saturday.
