Cougars travel to division leader

Head coach Ray McCallum and his squad travel to Hattiesburg, Miss., to take on the Southern Miss Golden Eagles for the first time in what may be their toughest match this season.
 

C-USA Notebook

Marquette (8-7 overall, 3-1 C-USA) upset South Florida last week as it dropped the Bulls, 72-68. Even so, the Golden Eaglesi perfect C-USA record was marred in a Saturday loss to Charlotte. They still hold the top spot in the American Division, but fall to third in C-USA.
 

Women's AP Top 25

Freshman standout Alana Beard dislocated her thumb on a steal attempt Thursday night against Atlantic Coast Conference foe North Carolina. Duke won the game, but Beard had to be taken to the hospital at halftime to prepare her for a 2 a.m. surgery. The simultaneous ACC Player and Rookie of the Week will be out for three weeks.
 

Cougars are picked third

The Conference USA office announced Tuesday that the UH baseball team is expected to finish third in C-USA on a preseason poll of the leagueis 10 head coaches.
