Picture this: It's Friday night and a person
is driving down the Beltway at a speed acceptable to the flow of traffic,
but well above the speed limit. As this person passes all other vehicles,
he or she seems to be alone on the road -- except for the flashing red
and blue lights in the rearview mirror.
Does this sound familiar? Of course it
does, because according to the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles, 98 percent
of Americans have received at least one
traffic ticket. Most traffic tickets,
however, do offer a wonderful loophole that is recommended for everyone's
advantage: defensive driving.
Defensive driving is a great way to dismiss
traffic violations without tarnishing driving records or causing insurance
rates to skyrocket. Don't sign up for boring
Department of Motor Vehicles classes or
the ones taught at Laff Stop ever again. Take the course online in the
comfort of your own home using as much time as
you need.
The Web site, txdriving.com, is a state-approved
defensive driving course you can access from work, home or any other place
with Internet access.
The course costs $40 and can be paid for
by credit card online. Those weary of online purchases can read the security
disclaimer first. The course takes
approximately six hours to complete, but
with your own log- in name and password you can save your work and finish
another day.
That's assuming you didn't wait until the
last day to take defensive driving. Otherwise, allow yourself seven or
eight straight hours to take the class. If you do not
complete defensive driving by midnight
on the last day stated on your citation, then the certificate is good for
insurance purposes only.
The completion of a defensive driving course
on txdriving.com is good for a 10 percent reduction in insurance rates.
Just present the insurance company with your
completion certificate and reap the benefits.
