Incompletes may get policy
change

The Undergraduate Council will review proposed
changes to UH's incomplete grading policy during a meeting scheduled for
3 p.m. today in
Room 220, Ezekiel Cullen. The meeting
is open to the public.
The current policy states an incomplete
grade will automatically be changed to an F if the class is not completed
within a year of the date given
to a student by the class' instructor.
A proposal, prompted by Undergraduate Council
Chairman Ross Lence, states that, should the course not be completed, the
incomplete
grade would be changed to indicate the
student withdrew from the class.
"I asked the council and first the Academic
Policies and Procedures Committee to examine the whole grading structure
at the University,"
Lence said. It had been 25 years since
it was last reviewed.
The proposal states that, since a student
must be passing the course before consideration is given to receive an
incomplete grade, the
change "will more accurately reflect the
actual performance of the student in the course."
The council is expected to act on the proposal
today, Lence said. It will then be given to any other departments which
could be affected before
being sent to Senior Vice Chancellor for
Academic Affairs and Provost Edward P. Sheridan for approval.
