Texas A&M proves too
much for the Cougars

The UH women's tennis team lost to Texas
A&M Wednesday 7-0.
A&M's depth and an injury to Houston's
top player proved too much for the Cougars to overcome, as the team's record
in dual
matches this year drops to 8-8 with four
matches remaining.

Those eight wins are already one more
than the team managed last year, so this campaign is already a success.
The Aggies used eight different players
in the match, while the Cougars only have six eligible players.
Junior Karine Urbin and sophomore Sarah
Flood are redshirting this semester to heal injuries.
Senior Sarah Borwell, Houston's No. 1 player,
was forced to withdraw with an unspecified injury after she fell 6-0 in
the first set
against A&M's Jessica Roland.
The 5-10 senior from England has been struggling
with the aftereffects of mononucleosis, and looked fatigued in her doubles
and
singles matches.
Junior Jen Baccarani, playing at the No.
2 spot, looked strong early against A&M's Olivia Karlikova, but could
not hold on as she fell
6-4, 6-1 in two sets.
Senior Jo Keene went down 7-5 in the first
set to Ashley Hedberg and could not climb back, falling 6-0 in the second
set to lose the
match.
Keene, a native of England, had her mother
in attendance at the match.
Junior Analia Longoni could not keep up
with Texas A&M's Martina Nedorostova as she lost 6-1, 6-3.
Senior Kailey Meisinger fell to Roberta
Spencer 6-1, 6-2 in a hard-fought battle. Freshman Kandace Ridgeway lost
6-0, 6-1 to Aggie
Leah Killen.
In the doubles matches, UH lost all three,
though the No. 1 and No. 2 matches were very close.
Borwell and Keene played at the No. 1 position,
and fell 9-7 to Roland and Hedberg of the Aggies.
Baccarani and Longoni lost 8-6 to Nedorostova
and Killen at the No. 2 spot.
Meisinger and Ridgeway were defeated by
Lee and Bassett 8-4 at the No. 3 position.
The Cougars will go back into action Friday
when they take on Arkansas-Little Rock at 2 p.m. at the Hoff Tennis Center
on campus.
