Cool, clear water: Lifeguard Amanda Young, a freshman university studies student, swims laps before work at the outdoor pool near the Quadrangle residence hall Wednesday. The pool is open from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and from noon to 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Declaring that UH had achieved 1958 commencement speaker Lyndon B. Johnson's "prophecy" that it would someday become "a great university," UH President Arthur K. Smith gave his "Report to the Community" before hundreds of local business leaders, elected officials and other dignitaries
Wednesday.

We were supposed to know Friday. Surprisingly, the Student Publications Committee (the committee that picks the new editor out of all of the
applicants) met quorum at its meeting last Friday but it chose to not choose between Applicant A and Applicant ... wait, there was only one applicant as of Friday.
