said he learned to play on his own but is taking lessons now
Managing Editor Keenan Singleton was elected
as editor in chief of The Daily Cougar for the Summer and Fall 2002 semesters
during a specially called meeting of the Student Publications Committee
on Tuesday in the University Center Underground's Mediterranean Room. Singleton
won five of eight votes cast.
After writing columns for two
years, I always wondered what my final column would be about. In my angry
moments, I envisioned my grand exit. A conservative reader would pick up
the newspaper and see the headline above my column: "Jesus was a communist."
It would be beautiful. I would lash out against the capitalistic religion
pushers across campus who have e-mailed me over the past two years telling
me that I'm unrealistic and I'm definitely going to hell.
Students of UH's theater department
have bombarded the serene atmosphere of theater by blasting its practices
of performing outdated material, its dependence on one-minute monologues
to determine if an actor is worthy of a role and even the work of William
Shakespeare.
The Houston baseball team went
2-2 last week, dropping to No. 10 in the Baseball America poll, but went
on to win its series against Conference USA foe Cincinnati. With the wins,
the Cougars stayed atop the league standings with a 13-5 conference record.
