Ginger Hurley will not be Houston's head swimming coach next year.
Athletics officials confirmed Wednesday that Hurley's contract was not
renewed, meaning she will no longer be at the University effective Aug.
31. Swimming team members said her office is cleared out.

The UH women's swimming team will be without head coach Ginger Hurley
next year. Hurley's contract was not renewed, so she will be out of a job
effective Aug. 31.
Assistant coach Jeff Helms has resigned and will leave the University
by the end of the month, an Athletics official said.
The team was told in early April that Hurley and Helms would be leaving.
"We heard rumors a week before," a UH swimmer who asked not to be identified
said. "It was very unexpected, because we thought if anything
would happen it would probably be at the end of the season, not in
the middle of the off-season."
Athletics Director Dave Maggard did not return Daily Cougar phone calls
Wednesday.
Hurley had no comment when reached at home Wednesday afternoon.
Hurley has been head coach at UH for the past six years (where she compiled
a 21-51 record), and was an assistant under Phill Hansel the
previous year. Hurley was an honorable mention All-American at Texas
A&M in 1990 and graduated from there in 1991.
Before coming to UH, Hurley headed the San Jacinto Aquatic Club from
1991-96.
Helms has been an assistant with the Cougars for four years. Previously,
he was an assistant men's swimming coach at Georgia and headed
the Conroe Area Team Swimmers.
There is no word on a potential replacement for Hurley.
