Regents appoint new administrators

The UH System Board of Regents on Friday
unanimously accepted the appointments of John Rudley, the new vice-chancellor
for finance and
administration, and Dona Glimm Hamilton,
the new vice-chancellor for legal affairs and general counsel for the UH
system.
"We had a national (candidate) for each
position," UH System Chancellor and UH President Arthur K. Smith said.
"I constructed a search
committee that included faculty, students
and staff and we interviewed 10 potential candidates. After that we narrowed
it down to three and
interviewed them here at the University."
In the meeting, held at the Chancellor's
Conference Room in the Ezekial Cullen Building, the torch was passed from
Randy Harris, the current
vice-chancellor and finance and administration
to Rudley. Rudley is a certified public accountant and former vice-chancellor
of business and
finance for the University of Tennessee
at Chattanooga and Texas Southern University.
"After Randy (Harris) told me he was leaving
we got right to the task of finding a worthy replacement and after an extensive
interviewing
process, I am proud to say that we chose
the best candidate for the job," Smith said about Rudley, who did not attend
the meeting.
Harris, who is leaving UH to become president
for the Church of Latter Day Saints mission in Guatamala, said he received
a calling from his
church and faith.
"I am going to be living one house down
from the president of Guatamala and service almost all of the country,"
Harris said.
Also passing the torch, is Dennis Duffy,
the current vice-chancellor for legal affairs for UH, who is leaving to
become vice-president and general
counsel of labor and employment for AOL/Time
Warner in New York.
"I am proud to recommend (Hamilton) to
the board," Smith said. "The day that (Duffy) told me that he was leaving
I called (Hamilton) and she
said that she was in fact interested in
the job. A week ago when I represented it to her she accepted. We are happy
because we want to have a
greater representation of minorities as
well as women here on this campus."
Hamilton, currently the deputy chief for
litigation in the Texas Attorney General's office, was unsure as to where
she would lead the UH's legal
department for the moment.
"I am going to have to wait and see when
I get to work as to what I am going to do," Hamilton said.
Although Duffy is leaving, Board Chairman
Morrie Abramson, said Duffy will keep an eye on how things are being run
in his former office.
"I want to be the first to congratulate
(Hamilton) on the job that she is acquiring," Abramson said. "I am sure
that she is going to maintain the
great job that (Duffy) has done so far
and I am sure that he is going to make sure that she does."
Rudley and Hamilton will take their new
positions June 17.
