Ward, Clarke place high
at NCAA track tournament

Clarke represented Houston at the NCAA women's track and field Championships
in Baton Rouge,
LA. May 29 through June 1.

Freshman Krystal Ward finished
sixth in the heptathlon at the NCAA Championships in Baton Rouge, LA.,
earning All-American honors for the
talented freshman.
For Clarke, competing in the pole vault
event marked her final collegiate appearance for UH.
Clarke cleared 13 feet one inch to finish
fifth in the event. California-Los Angeles' Tracy O'Hara won with a vault
of 13-5.
Ward completed her freshman year with a
sixth place finish in the heptathlon and was named as an All-American for
her accomplishments.
Ward began the competition in 15th place
after the first event, but quickly bounced back after finishing first in
the high jump.
Ward finished the competition with a score
of 5,337. Kansas State's Austra Skujyte finished with 6,061 points.
Overall, Houston finished 35th at the meet.
Ward and Clarke scored all the team's points.
