Moving day: Campus residents make the long
flight back to the residence halls Sunday. The campus returns to its usual
state of normalcy today on the first day of classes for Spring 2002.
Students will have to go another
four months without the convenience of food, games and entertainment previously
provided by the University Center Satellite.
Welcome back to another semester
at UH. Welcome back to no parking, overpriced books, long lines for food,
overpriced food, people on cell phones, miserably dense traffic, huge classes,
construction in the middle of campus and rude drivers, passengers and pedestrians.
Welcome back to campus bookstore employees who work for evil conglomerates
just out to take money from poor college students, who never buy books
back unless it's for pennies on the dollar and then sell them for 50 times
their worth -- a little slice of home.
Releases from Jay-Z, Willie Nelson,
Snoop Dogg's youngest protégé Lil' Bow Wow, Bell Biv DeVoe,
Wu-Tang Clan and Mystikal led a parade of new albums over the 2001 holiday
season.
As UH forward Jeremee "Slim" McGuire checked into Saturday's
game against Cincinnati, teammate Andre Owens yelled, "Slim, I know you
ain't scared to play." This statement was as much a jab at the other Cougars
as it was an expression of belief in McGuire's abilities.
