Joseph Eichberg, a professor in the department
of biology and biochemistry, will finally assume responsibilities as faculty
senate president during the senate's Wednesday meeting.
Before then, incoming senators and officers
will participate in a New Senator Welcome Luncheon at noon today in the
Brown Room of the
M.D. Anderson Memorial Library. Senators
will also be encouraged to attend a day-long off-campus retreat on Feb.
15.
Eichberg told UH Campus News that he hoped
to attend the Deans' Council meetings periodically because keeping an open
line of
communication between the faculty and
dean colleges is vital.
He also said duties of communicating are
up to individual department chairs, because aside from their administrative
responsibilities, they
can help deans interact with the faculty.
Eichberg has been at UH for 25 years and
has spent nine of those working with the faculty senate. He was encouraged
to run for
president in late 2000 by then faculty
president-elect Jerome Freiberg.
He also told UHCN that he would keep a
close eye on the University's software conversion to PeopleSoft.
