UH looks to beat Horned
Frogs on the road

To declare that Texas Christian scores
a lot is, well, an understatement.
Brian Viney/The Daily Cougar
Junior forward Louis Truscott
fights for a rebound. Truscott had an outstanding game when the Cougars
beat Texas Christian on Jan.
15. Cougar fans hope he can repeat the
feat Saturday.
The Horned Frogs average 87.9 points per
game, third in the nation. Junior Blount leads the Frogs in scoring with
16 points per game
while Corey Santee, Bingo Merriex and
Jamal Brown all average in double figures.
The Frogs are coached by legendary head
coach Billy Tubbs, who has made his name by putting high-scoring, sharp-shooting
teams
on the court.
Earlier this season at Hofheinz Pavilion,
however, that offensive attack ran into a Cougar defense that was ready
to rumble.
The down-to-the-wire contest required overtime,
but the Cougars still managed to hold TCU to 71 points. UH allowed TCU
only four
points in the overtime period and went
on to grab an 11-point victory.
In that game Louis Truscott scored a career-high
26 points and grabbed 10 rebounds on his way to becoming the Conference
USA
Player of the Week.
Merriex scored 19 points and pulled down
11 boards for the Frogs, but the usual top-to-bottom scoring output wasn't
there as the Frogs
often looked frustrated by the Cougars'
swarming defense.
On Saturday the Cougars and Frogs will
do battle again, this time in Fort Worth. With a fairly strong 12-10 overall
record (5-4 in C-USA),
the Cougars find themselves tied with
South Florida for second place in C-USA's National Division.
A victory over the Frogs and a USF win
over Tulane would set up a war at Hofheinz for second place on Feb. 12.
With seven games left, the Cougars have
a solid shot at securing a high seed in the Conference Tournament and possibly
slipping into
the National Invitational Tournament at
the end of the season.
The Frogs are 13-12 on the season, 3-8
in C-USA and are coming off a 92-83 home victory over DePaul on Wednesday.
Blount scored
a career-high 34 points and Santee added
17 points and seven assists for TCU in that contest.
The game is set to get underway at 7 p.m.
at Daniel-Meyer Coliseum and can be heard on 740-AM KTRH.
