Love, in all its many forms, was in the air Wednesday night at the first
spring session of Poetry and Prose, the reading series sponsored by UH's
Creative Writing Program and the UH Libraries.

Of the many places students congregate on campus, the M.D. Anderson
Memorial Library may not seem like the most likely place for a love connection,
but Evelyn Ighedosa, a pre-business major and librarian, said she sees
guys trying to pick up girls on the first floor up to six or seven times
a day.

A speech titled "Why Multiculturalism Matters in America" may not get
the heart racing, but through descriptive recollections of what it was
like to grow up as an Asian-American, Ronald Takaki showed the crowd at
the Waldorf Ballroom in the UH Hilton on Tuesday why teaching about various
cultures was important.
