Experts discuss Houston ills Cougar News Services There's something about Houston -- probably the fact that it's built on top of a swamp -- that makes it so darn peculiar. That's what the panel of experts convening today and Saturday in the UH Hilton will look at. In a series of six sessions, environment, sociology and history experts will study Houston in an effort to determine what the city needs to focus on in order to make positive changes. From public utilities to air-conditioning to the impact of Big Oil on the ship channel, the panel will break up into discussion groups to tackle the myriad issues facing the Bayou City. Other discussions will look into public opinion and environmental justice. Presenters include professors from both UH and elsewhere,
and their presentations will be considered for a book about Houston's environmental
history to be published by Pittsburgh Press.
