Sports UH divers set sights on NCAA qualifiers Cougar Sports Services Three UH divers will take the next step toward qualifying for the NCAA Championships when they travel to Austin to compete in the NCAA Zone D Diving Championships today through Saturday. Senior Yulia Pakhalina will attempt to reclaim her crown in the one-meter event. She qualified for the NCAAs last season, but came short of defending the national titles in the one- and three-meter events. She won both events in 2001, but had to settle for one national title -- the three-meter -- in 2002. With her wins in 2001, Pakhalina became the first Cougar to earn a national championship since 1980.
Senior diver Yulia Pakhalina will take another step towards going back to the NCAA Championships for the third consecutive year when she, senior Veronica Smith and freshman Azul Almazan travel to Austin to participate in the NCAA Zone D Championships. Pin Lim/The Daily Cougar She will be joined by senior Veronica Smith and redshirt freshman Azul Almazan. The trio finished in the top four of both events at the Conference USA Championships.
