Arts & Entertainment Shady's '8 Mile' on DVD By Udochi Igbokwe
DVD buyers should be exited from the releases this week. The release sure to come out on the top is by "Mr. Controversy" himself, Eminem. The long awaited release of 8 Mile is finally here. This movie was number one in theatres for more than three straight weeks and grossed over $100 million. 8 Mile is an urban drama that makes a fairly standard plot fly through gritty attention to detail. The DVD features, exclusive, never-before-seen Eminem rap battles, showcasing Eminem free styling against local Detroit rappers, who auditioned to appear in the movie. There is also behind the scenes with Eminem: "The Making of 8 Mile," and of course the "Music of 8 Mile." Perhaps the most exciting part of this DVD is the uncensored release of the Superman music video, which features Eminem and a hundred barely clad women. Another DVD released this week is the Alicia Keys: From Start to Stardom. This semi documentary is about Alicia Keyis struggle from the bottom to the top. The DVD tells the story of her journey through her recording career through the eyes of Keys and friends and family members. Also out on DVD is the movie Sordid Lives. In the movie details of a southern family surface, with a vengeance, when relatives converge for the funeral of Grandma Peggy, who died after tripping over her lover's wooden legs. Add a couple of big-haired daughters, a jumpy aunt, the scorned neighbor from hell and across-dressing Brother, and you've got ... well, you get the idea. For lovers of the ABC series, NYPD Blue comes the late release of the DVD, NYPD Blue: 1st Season. YPD Blue was the groundbreaking series that triggered what may be the biggest mutiny in TV history when several station affiliates across the country refused to carry the show. .
